If you have ever searched the Internet for ways to make money online, you know first-hand just how many products are out there. Most of these “make money online” products are absolute rubbish, and just want to take your money. Learning how to avoid online money making scams is very important.
I have been a victim of getting ripped off by some of these expensive products that don’t teach you anything of value. If you ever are wondering whether a product is a scam or not, check to see if any of these 5 warning signs are there.
5 Signs a Product Might be a Scam
1. The Golden Rule – If It Sounds Too Good To Be True, It Probably Is
This saying is absolutely true, especially when it comes to making money online products. However, it can be difficult to tell which products are legit and which products are a scam online. This is because most products know how to market and sell their product with a great sales pitch. Even 100% legit programs can sound too good to be true at times.
The three important things you need to look for when looking at a product are: how much money they claim you can make, the amount of time it will take for you to make that money, and how much work you need to put in to see results.
While it is possible to make thousands of dollars per week online, it is not easy. It will take time and a lot of effort. So if you see a product claiming you can make thousands of dollars in your first few days or weeks, it is probably a scam.
This is especially true if they say that even beginners with no experience can make money in days. If you are a beginner, it will definitely take you more than a few days to start making money.
There are actually ways to start making money in days, but you usually need to pay that company lots of money to do that. And the kicker is that you’ll end up spending more money than you’ll be making though.
Probably the best way to make money online is by turning a hobby or passion of yours and creating a website/blog about it. While technology makes it easy to build a website for beginners (in minutes with no experience), it will take time to build that website up to the point where it makes money.
Any legit program out there will take effort on your part to do. If the program you are looking at says you don’t need to do anything, or don’t need to put in any work at all, then it’s probably a scam.
2. No Contact Information On Their Website
If you can’t find any way to contact the seller on their webpage, something fishy is going on. Or if there is only an e-mail address but no physical address or phone number, that is another sign to avoid that company. Even if there is contact information on their website, it might not always be correct. You should try e-mailing and calling them to see how easily you can get a hold of them and how long they take to respond to you.
If you buy a product, or even receive a product for free, there is a good chance you will run into upsells. An upsell is the company trying to get you to spend more money on other products or services. Sometimes you NEED to buy an upsell to continuing using a product. Any program where you NEED to buy an upsell for it to work is a scam.
For example, there are scams online that will give you their product for free, or for a very low cost. This usually is some sort of training guide on how to make money. After you follow a few of the steps from their guide, you’ll be asked to purchase a product or service that is REQUIRED for you to continue with their program.
Sometimes the upsells they try to get you to buy are optional, so you don’t need them for the program to work. However, these programs DEPEND on you buying their upsells to make money. So if you choose to not purchase anything, you might get the cold shoulder from them and not receive any more support. Or at the very least, you will have a very hard time making money from their program without buying their upsell.
Some upsells are practical and a good way to make money. We see upsells in restaurants, hotels, and even with transportation. However, in the online world, many upsells just want to take your money without giving you much in return. Any program that offers a lot of upsells or requires you to buy their upsells is probably a scam that you should avoid.
4. Over the Top Marketing Sales Pitch
If you see a website or a sales video with guys driving Lamborghinis , living in a million dollar house , and sailing around the world in their private yacht, there is a great chance that is product is not worth your time. They put most of their money and effort into their sales pitch because their product isn’t very good. Their sales pitch is pretty much their product.
The images of money and luxury they show you in their sales pitch makes you want to buy their product, even if you know better. But once you purchase their product and take a look inside the box, you will see that they ripped you off. A product that is beautifully wrapped on the outside, but has nothing to offer you on the inside.
5. Product Owner Refers You To Another Service/Product
More often than not, making money online products are owned and sold by one or a few individuals. There are few products made and sold by companies. Since only one person or a small group of people owns the product, they usually don’t have much revenue and want to make as much money as possible in the shortest amount of time.
What is the easiest way for them to do this?
By referring you to another product that will “help” you make more money or bring more traffic to your website. By doing this, that person not only makes money from selling you their product, but they will also get money from the company they have partnered up with.
Now, not all recommendations are bad. There are legit products out there that will refer you to a useful product that can help you out. When a legit product refers you to another product, it should almost always be OPTIONAL. And more importantly, it is a product that is truly HELPFUL to you.
How can you tell if a product is help to you?
Simple. If it’s a program that can make your WORK more efficient, or offers ways to make your business better by YOU DOING WORK, then it’s probably a legit recommendation. The magic word is “WORK.” If a product helps you WORK better, or WORK more efficiently, AND is related to the original product you bought, then it is probably a good recommendation.
A SCAM product will entice you by saying you only need to do a little, or even no work to make money.
Also, if the product you get refereed to has nothing to do with the original product you bought, then it’s probably a scam. Or if the product is EXACTLY THE SAME as the original product, but just marketed differently, STAY AWAY.
For example, if you buy a product called “How to Make Money with your Blog,” and get referred to another product that is called “How to Double the Amount of Money with Your Blog in 4 Weeks,” guess what? That is virtually the same topic for both products. You don’t need both of them. If the original product your bought is a quality product, you should be able to get all the information you need to make money from that. Any other programs on the same topic shouldn’t be necessary.
If you tried any programs/products that scammed you out of your money and time, please leave it in the comments below and help other people avoid it.
